River walks and trips

The River Alde at the Maltings is a haven for birdlife with its expansive estuary. Being tidal it’s a place of glistening mud and shallow open water, filled twice a day by the incoming tide and rich in wildlife throughout the year.

Enjoy walks along the Alde Estuary following the choice of footpaths on both river banks from the Maltings.

Our River Trips have taken a break for winter, but will be running again from next Easter 2009. So why not follow one of the two way-marked trails from Snape Maltings.

River walks
Bird watching

On the first Saturday of each month, a RSPB guided river walk leaves the Maltings at 11.00 am.

No booking is required. We suggest that participants make a £1 donation Suffolk Coasts and Heaths for the conservation of the Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty (ANOB) of which the Maltings is a part.
