River Walks, Boat Trips and Bird Watching
River Walks and Trips
The River Alde at the Maltings is a haven for birdlife with its expansive estuary. Being tidal it's a place of glistening mud and shallow open water, filled twice a day by the incoming tide and rich in wildlife during migrating months.
We regret to inform all our visitors to Snape Maltings that there will be no rivers trips running in 2010. We are however expecting river trips to resume in April 2011.
Enjoy walks along the ALDE ESTUARY following the choice of footpaths on both river banks from the Maltings.
Bird Watching
Meet the RSPB at the Wildlife Information Centre on the quay, only 10 miles from RSPB Minsmere, to discover the fantastic wildlife at Snape Maltings.
Open 10am - 4pm Thursday to Tuesday
In summer look for dragonflies, butterflies and flowers, and watch house martins nesting on the buildings. Search for wading birds in autumn and winter, when estuary is one of the best places to watch wildlife in Suffolk. Learn what to feed your garden birds, and watch the action at the RSPB feeding station.
